When you think of CBD edibles, you probably think about cookies, wafers, and gummies.
But ice cream can also be a great way to take CBD, and could even offer some additional benefits over other edibles.
Better yet, it is a tasty treat you can easily make at home. Here is what you need to know.
CBD Ice Cream Is A Growing Trend
CBD oil can be added to almost anything, although it tends to work best when paired with a strong flavour to mask the earthy taste of CBD oil.
That makes ice cream the perfect candidate for an infusion of CBD into the tasty treat, especially on a sunny day.
CBD-infused ice creams are already taking off all over the world, with big names like Ben & Jerry’s planning to bring CBD oil ice cream to the US market.
While these kinds of products are not available for sale in Australia yet, CBD-infused ice cream is something that is easy and fun to make at home.

Benefits of CBD Oil In Ice Cream
CBD-infused ice cream conveys all of the health benefits usually associated with consuming cannabidiol. In fact, it might actually be one of the better ways to ingest CBD oil.
Several studies have indicated that your body can absorb more cannabidiol from your food when you pair it with a food or drink that is high in fat.
Of course, ice cream also tends to be full of sugar. Eating a lot of sugar regularly is not great for your health, so it’s best to enjoy CBD ice cream in moderation. Nonetheless, mixing CBD with ice cream could help your CBD be more effective.
One study suggested that consuming CBD with a fatty meal could increase your absorption of cannabidiol by as much as 400%.
In other words, putting CBD oil in your ice cream could result in you getting more potent results from your oil. This can help you make your CBD oil last longer while still getting the same effects from it.
CBD Oil Ice Cream Vs Marijuana Ice Cream
CBD ice cream should not be confused with cannabis ice cream, which contains a significant amount of THC. Ice cream infused with only CBD oil will not have any psychoactive effects or cause any intoxication or impairment, unlike THC-infused ice cream.
However, since the CBD oil used may contain trace amounts of THC, you could test positive for cannabis on a drug or driving impairment test after eating CBD-infused ice cream.
This is mainly an issue for full-spectrum CBD oil users. If you are using a CBD isolate oil, this is less of a concern, as these CBD oils contain zero THC.
How To Make CBD Ice Cream At Home?
You can’t buy CBD ice cream in Australia, but you can still make your own at home or even just mix CBD oil into the ice cream you bought at the supermarket.
Most people who have experimented with making their own CBD-infused ice cream recommend using CBD isolate powder for the best flavour, as isolate crystals are almost tasteless.
However, CBD isolate is also thought to have reduced therapeutic effects, as CBD is believed to be more effective in the presence of other cannabinoids found in the hemp or cannabis plant. This is known as the entourage effect.
Additionally, CBD isolate crystals can be hard to access, as there are very few CBD isolate powders that have been approved for use as a prescribed drug in Australia.
If you decide to use oil instead, stick with strongly flavoured ice cream. The oil can add an earthy aftertaste to the ice cream, and a stronger flavour will help to disguise this.

Try This Easy CBD Ice Cream Recipe
If you want to try out some tasty CBD-infused ice cream for yourself, try this simple CBD ice cream recipe you can make at home.
This recipe is for chocolate ice cream since chocolate does such a great job of hiding CBD oil’s earthy flavour, but you can experiment with your own ingredients. For an extra boost of CBD, you could also try adding infused CBD honey as another sweetener alternative.
- 200g dark chocolate
- 500ml double cream
- 340g can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder
- 50g milk chocolate chips
To make a vegan CBD ice cream, substitute the milk and cream for 800g coconut milk mixed with 2 tablespoons of cornflour.
Chop the chocolate into small pieces and add it to a bowl set over simmering water. Melt it until it becomes smooth and glossy.
While this cools, pour the condensed milk, cream, and vanilla (or coconut milk, cornflour, and vanilla) into a bowl and whisk for about 3 minutes, when the mixture will start to thicken.
Fold the melted chocolate into the cream mixture along with the cocoa powder and chocolate chips. Add your preferred CBD dosage. Don’t use more than 2 tablespoons of oil, though, as it could impact the ice cream’s consistency.
Putting a total of 60 mg of CBD into the ice cream should be enough for most people, but you can experiment with more or less as needed.
Scrape the mixture into a 1-litre freezer-proof container, such as an old ice cream tub. Cover it, and place it in the freezer for at least 6 hours.
